Ronan Re-signs!

QUB AFC are delighted to announce that Ronan Young has extended his Elite Athlete Scholarship contract at Queen’s University for the upcoming 2021-22 campaign.  Ronan, who joined our Soccer Academy scholarship programme in 2017, has progressed to the highest scholarship level available at Queen’s following his selection to represent Ireland at the World University Games in Naples, 2019.

Manager Peter Thompson commented “Ronan has been a key player for us in recent seasons and played a crucial role in both the Intermediate Cup win and our promotion to the NIFL Championship division. Our ability to secure players of Ronan’s calibre for the upcoming season is testament to the continued progress we are making and our ambitious plans for the future”.

Young added “For me it was an easy decision in the end. I have been very fortunate to develop as an athlete both on and off the pitch at Queen’s due to the fantastic support services the scholarship programme has in place. I am excited by the clubs plans for the future and I can’t wait to get started again in pre-season”.

QUB AFC remain committed to developing the best young players available while also providing a World Class education.  The club will also be entering an inaugural u20 team into the NIFL Development league for the 2021-22 season. This will provide our scholarship athletes coming to Queen’s University with a clear pathway and fantastic opportunity to progress into the first team.
