Seán O’Neill is one of the most decorated Gaelic Footballers of all time, having won the Sam Maguire Cup three times with Down, the Ulster Senior Championship eight times, and the Sigerson Cup twice. He played with his local club John Mitchels and was an inter-county footballer in parts of three decades.

Seán studied Law at Queen’s and went on to have a successful career in that field while continuing a life-long involvement in Gaelic Football. He returned to intervarsity competition as a manager winning the Sigerson Cup in 1982 and the Ryan Cup in 1984 and 1985. He also managed Down to the All-Ireland Minor title in 1977.

In 20XX Queen’s Sport initiated the Seán O’Neill GAA Academy to help in the development of promising Gaels at Queen’s. In 2019 Seán was awarded an honorary doctorate from Queen’s for his services to sport.
